Andrew Martin, Psy.D.
Clinical Psychologist

I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist in Ohio, Maryland, and Virginia and have over 10 years of post-doctoral experience in treating a wide variety of psychological
concerns and problems. My career thus far has taken me to state psychiatric facilities, community hospitals, university counseling centers, community clinics, private
institutes, and private practice. Some of the areas in which I specialize include the evaluation and treatment of:
- Sex Addiction and Compulsion
- Sexual Performance and Identity Issues, including LGBT issues
- Gambling Addiction and other Compulsive Behaviors
- Alcohol and Substance Abuse
- Relationship, Spirituality, and Personality Concerns
- Depression, Anxiety, and Panic Attacks
- Working with Clergy and Religious Organizations
- Sports and Athletic Performance Problems
- Psychological Testing
I attended Kenyon College in Gambier, OH where I received a Bachelor's degree, with honors, in Psychology and completed a concentration in the Humanities.
From there I received my Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) degree from the George Washington University in Washington, DC in 2001. The final year of this degree
was spent completing an internship at John Umstead Hospital, a state psychiatric facility outside Durham, NC. After completing my doctorate I spent the next
8 years as a staff psychologist at the St. Luke Institute (www.sli.org) a private treatment center for Catholic clergy and religious in Silver Spring, MD.
During my time on staff I also managed a part-time private practice, and in 2008 made the transition to full-time private practice in Fairfax, VA.
I am a member of the American Psychological Association, the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health, the American Psychoanalytic Association, the Society
for Personality Assessment, the Ohio Psychological Association, and the Toledo Area Academy of Professional Psychologists.
My training in psychotherapy has been influenced by a wide variety of philosophies and theories. In working with clients, my primary focus is on establishing
a collaborative relationship that works to both empower the person and help them establish a greater sense of integrity within their life. While I have found
that some issues can be resolved with brief psychotherapy, I also strive to help clients become more aware of deeper connections to their problems, whether it
be in their relationships with others or in their relationship with themselves.
A significant portion of my professional career has been spent working with religious organizations, including conducting candidate and deaconate evaluations,
consultation with religious communities about the psychological health of their members, and the psychological treatment of both clergy and religious.
As a new addition to the practice, I am currently accepting new clients. I am in the process of joining insurance panels, and am also happy to work with individuals
who wish to pay out-of-pocket. I would be happy to talk with you further about your therapy needs.
